Second Amendment to the United States Constitution

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Went into effect on December 15, 1791 when the Bill of Rights had been ratified by three-fourths of the States.
