Starting January 1, 2026, the federal tax on suppressors and short-barreled firearms is $0.
Congress made the change in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed July 4, 2025.
What changed
The $200 National Firearms Act tax is now $0 for every NFA item except machine guns and destructive devices. That covers suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns and any other weapons.
